Why would anyone want to lock a disk ? When you lock (or write-protect) a disk, it prevents the disk‚Äôs contents from being changed or deleted, either accidentally or intentionally. Files and folders on a locked disk cannot be CREATED, DELETED, or CHANGED, but the information can still be READ, by you or anyone else.

  19. The ‚Ķlock upon startup checkbox determines whether the startup disk is automatically locked when you start up your Macintosh. The disk locks AFTER all startup documents load since some startup documents don‚Äôt work on a locked startup disk.

  22. The ‚Ķunlock upon shutdown checkbox determines whether the startup disk is automatically unlocked when you shut down your Macintosh.

  24.           NOTE: Some software will NOT work correctly at all from a locked startup disk (such as File Sharing under System 7.0). If you come across software that does not work correctly from a locked disk, contact the manufacturer or distributor.

  28. B)  IN REGARD TO FLOPPY DISKS‚Ķ CHECKBOXES‚Ķ
  29. People can ‚Äúlock‚Äù a floppy disk by using one of two methods (or both at the same time), by:

  31. 1)  HARDWARE. The write-protect tab located on the upper right corner of the floppy disk physically locks the disk. If you can see through the hole, the floppy disk IS locked; or
  32.  
  33. 2)  SOFTWARE. VirusBlockade write-protects your disk by using software.
  34.  
  35.           NOTE: Given a choice, it is ALWAYS preferable to write-protect floppy disks via the HARDWARE method. Barring that, it is far better to write-protect your floppy disks using software than not to write-protect at all.

We have defined ‚Äúother non-networked disks‚Äù as any non-startup disks that are directly connected to your Macintosh, and which are NOT connected via a network. It also doesn‚Äôt include floppy disks because they get their own section in A) above. Local = non-networked = is part of YOUR workstation as opposed to someone else‚Äôs workstation.

  59. <You are in this file now.> If you want to write the text file to the Clipboard, click the Help->Clipboard button. Paste the contents of the Clipboard wherever you want the contents to go (which would probably be your favorite word processing program). Click the OK button when you want to close the Help file.

  62. When you click the Cancel button: 
  63.           1) if you made any changes, VirusBlockade presents an alert box that asks ‚ÄúSave changes to {name of the dialog box}?‚Äù. You have the choice between: Don‚Äôt Save, Cancel (this cancel cancels the first cancel) or Save;
  64.           2) if you didn‚Äôt make any changes, VirusBlockade brings you back to the Main Window.

  67. If you click the Save button, VirusBlockade saves any changes and closes the dialog box.
